GOAL Community Group – Getting Older Adults Online
Goal training sessionFree Basic Computer Training
The GOAL (Getting Older Adults on Line) Community Group was formed in 2013. To date we have helped 175 people to advance their computer knowledge. The Group provides support and encouragement to mature people who wish to access and benefit from new technology. The Group’s weekly training sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays are free and are designed to improve the computer knowledge of those aged 55 and over and housebound/disabled inhabitants of Wem and the surrounding area. We are working with the Get Shropshire Online government initiative.
If you need to set up your laptop, tablet or smart phone we can help. We can show you how to access the internet and explain how to use it. If you are planning to purchase broadband access or personal computer equipment we can provide unbiased advice.
Love it or hate it technology is here to stay. Computers are a wonderful resource for everyone and nowadays it is possible to do many things online. For example, with computer access to the internet you can renew your TV licence, driving licence, car tax and bus pass. You can order groceries and other goods or get a good deal on a holiday. You can also contact friends and family using email and Skype. The list is never-ending.
The initial training is basic and works on a one to one basis until you are confident on a computer, laptop or tablet. Training sessions last for one hour and are scheduled from , 10.00 to 11.00 and 11.00 to 12.00 on Tuesdays and from 10.30 to 11.30 & 11.30 to 12.30 on Fridays. Training takes place at Edinburgh House, Wem.
